Am passing through Metro Park, NJ on my first Alzheimer's-caregving New York day trip - the result of my new arrangements. First time using Amtrak miles, too. I've got enough for about 20 trips before they run out. Five months, give or take. Maybe by that time I'll have him in a nursing home somewhere nearby. Or cash flow will be better and I can pay my way again.
Am interested to see if he's more coherent during the day. M had suggested that a while ago - pointed out that I usually contact him at night and he's in worse shape then. Maybe - but when I've talked to him by phone during the day, he's seemed bad then, too. I've learned not to put too much stock in other people's opinions - they don't have the history with him that I do and they don't pick up on the signs. To them he seems better than he really is.
Last night he wasn't eager for me to come up - people needed to rest after the trip to Pittsburgh (?), he said. Maybe it'd be better if I came by on Monday. Sure, I told him. I figure I'll just walk in and see how he reacts - I doubt he'll remember anything about Pittsburgh or the people (?) who went there.
It'll be a longer visit than usual - my train back to DC doesn't leave 'til 8 p.m. Will try to post again when I'm on the way home. Between now and then it'll be what it'll be.
