On October 29 I brought him from New York to the DC suburbs. Tomorrow I'll take him home. Paperwork is in order and train reservations are set. I have a nagging concern that Amtrak security won't be enthusiastic about ashes, but I'm told the cremation certificate will get me through. We'll see.
Technology permitting, I'll post tomorrow on the trip to New York, and again on the trip back.
We're nearly there.

Alan,
Before you head out, I assume you'll check w/Amtrak to see if there are any delays to NY. Forecast calls for snow/wet precip on Wednesday although it won't be as bad as last week's storm that closed NYC schools.

Thanks for the heads up. We're getting similar weather down here, and the way this whole thing has been going, it wouldn't surprise me if I got stranded somewhere with a bag full of ashes. But so far it looks like it's going to come down mainly as slush, and in small amounts, so I'm hoping for the best, which isn't characteristic but I'll try it. Will let you know if optimism works for me or not...
